Derby Flat Cap

Wool Derby Flat Cap

The first time that we met that day
I saw upon your stately head a hat
of a hat, a hat like no other. A lovely hat, a manly hat you wore
upon your head.

My gaze wondered up and up
your height quite astounding,
so I had to go on tippy-toe to give
you a proper greeting. I did
then you bent down low.

You whispered in my upturned ear
a soft, melodic hello. The sound
of your voice, your breath so warm and sweet. I hadn’t a clue before I
knew you about things stirring within.

Now when I see traveling through
the crowd, a stately head indeed.
Upon that head a pretty site the same
I spied back then. That lovely gray Derby Flat Cap upon your handsome head.

  3. It’s a classic hat and the poem implies a classic guy, a classic encounter. Hats off to this poem.

  4. The first stanza hooked me in with the lively repetition of “hat”. A charming, nostalgic vibe throughout.
