Insomnia

By Gypsie-Ami Offenbacher-Ferris

Open eyes drink in the darkness
black inkiness drips from walls
invisible in the midnight morass

An unseen clock ticks away
the laborious nighttime hours
the sound reverberates down the hall

One breath then two breaths
fear constricting muscles
into cramped bunches of sinew

Gray fog lists restlessly at windows
obscuring a moon disguised
by the shadow of Mother Earth

Rising without donning electric
lights to illuminate the suffocating crepuscular of empty rooms

Crackers and milk stave off
tenebrous imaginings of creatures
starved for eventide repast

    1. Yes, I take a hot bath before bed and sometimes a second one 1/2 through the night. I’ve suffered with it for years. Wishing you a peaceful sleep Sadje!! 🙏💤🙏
