C is for Calla Lilly

Calla Lily once removed
from Africa’s tropical shores
now grown in every country garden
throughout the whole wide world

Prolific and strong try as you might
you refuse to grow in a place that knows only snow with icy cold
and bitter winter winds

Have no fear as here you grow
beneath the least green thumb
in mounds of dark rich soil
and lots of radiant golden sun

A choice of brides throughout
the world and florists favorites too
With Cupid’s arrow pointy leaves
your aim is good and true

This understated beauty, elegant
in stance, can hypnotize a hardened
eye with its petals of swirling colors
dancing upon the garden floor
