Identity

In response to Sue W. & Gerry C.’s

Weekly Prompts Wednesday Challenge – Identity

Daddy’s little girl
for a time
until I wasn’t

Mommy’s bane
jealousy reigned
until it didn’t

Waiting to grow up
beautiful like the others
until I couldn’t

First love bloomed soft
petals open to the sun
until it left

New love comes along
sings an enamored song
until it stopped

Little babies born
a heart swells with joy
until I’m discarded

Life moves forward
pain and shards of happiness
until scabs form

Despair disappears
when he is near
until he isn’t

Adrift in a chaotic sea
rescued by the one
until there are two

Dad and mom have passed away
lovers love espoused to another
until the end of time

Dogs and trees now
comfort me
until they too are gone
