Monday Poetry Prompt: DEAF Hosted by Bartholomew Barker
Dad standing so tall so broad
he can’t hear me way up in the sky
Mother with her head in a book
can’t be bothered to even look up
He can’t hear me way down below
deaf to the needs of a first born girl
She in her fantasy realm of words
deaf to reality lost in her own world
A teacher a year could not lend an ear
to the shy girl forever new in the class
Students and faculty and all of the like
deaf to her fears laugh behind her back
A husband of worth and worldly wise
witless to the wishes of his three wives
Unable to hear past his own desires
deaf to the need of their inner fires
Deaf is she to the naysayers in life
unwilling to accept their dire constructs
Hear she does the wonders of nature
putting it down every day on paper
