Dear Daughter

FOR THE LOVE OF LETTERS

Dear Daughter,

With hand’s shaky and knuckles gnarled with age,
I strive to express a mother’s love
upon this page.

Though now strapped down
and saddled with life,
As you pursue your ambitions
of becoming his wife.

And with the burden of bearing
a young child of rare abilities,
Not like the others and not exactly
what you expected, no sensibilities.

While working a ten hour job
women of my day couldn’t fathom,
Erecting walls, covered in dust causing bronchospasm’s.

Keeping your head just above water
fighting to keep your life on keel,
Feeling alone in your daily struggles
thinking I don’t know how you feel.

My wish for you is to take a moment
sit down, breathe and take stock,
Drink feels good for a time, until
it robs you of all you have got.

The time it passes so quickly
my love without even noticing,
Let go those hurts churning inside,
instead on joy please start focusing.

My child, my daughter, my love,
the demons you wrestle are strong,
Hold onto my love and though I
may be gone, know in my eyes

You can do no wrong.

  2. We never stop worrying about our kids, do we. Your love for your daughter comes through so clearly in your letter. (Maybe I have this wrong and your mom is writing to you?) The love comes through in either case.
