Christmas Luster

Photograph by Gypsie-Ami Offenbacher-Ferris

Lights twinkling on a huge evergreen
Christmas tree
Memories so very precious to me

The scent of pine wafting
in the air
Often I wish I could go back there

Homemade fudge bubbling
on the stove
Gnarled fingers stirring with love

Gone away are those who
made it so
Left behind I stand alone in the snow

On this Christmas night
of nights
Do I follow them or continue to fight?

The luster of Christmas
worn away by time
Would that I could make it again shine
