Sleep evades night after night
it tickles my lashes
makes my lids heavy and tight
My arms weighted down by sleeps mirth
heavy with exhaustion and a long days work
I stare at them now laying across my girth
Sleep pushes and pushes
threatening nightly to give me rest
while making my legs feel like thorny bushes
The clock ticks away as I imagine white sheep
tjumping over snoring logs to stumble
rousing me from an almost sleep
Sleep dangles its soft soothing abyss
hinting at lullaby’s I would’ve liked to hear
teasing me with how much I have missed
