Shakespeare published 154 sonnets in his quarto in 1609. While the initial 126 are addressed to a young man, the final 28 are directed toward an enigmatic woman referred to as the dark lady.

Not good enough
Never good enough
Always I am lacking

Hours and hours
I paint and I paint
Always I am slacking

Brushes move to and fro
In and out dipping and flicking
Always I am retracting

No forward movement
Unable to break through
Always I am counteracting

The lake so calm so blue
This painting I will gift to you
Always I am detaching

    I love this poem. It might be 1 of my favorites. You have managed to put real emotional content into a rhyming poem. plus I strongly “resemble” some of the stanzas 😀
