(100 words)
It was there, she could see it. The magic spinning wheel. Only the queen had been allowed to touch it and before that, the queen mother and so on. Since the queens death, no one had dared touch it, not even to put it away for safe-keeping.

The lovely young maid, longed to place her slender hands on the rich, dark mahogany surface, it called to her mournfully. She could hear how badly it wanted to sing. She could make it sing, she knew it.

Gingerly, timidly she sat upon the stool and placed her hand on the wheel.

  3. I’m for happy endings so I love the tune she created! Go, little maid, spin me a melody.

  4. Beautifully told, her longing to use a well-crafted tool is loud and clear. Why should there be a bad outcome if there isn’t a fairy godmother who cursed her.

    1. In days of old, a maid could be put to death for touching a “better’s property.” But I prefer a happy ending too! Thank you GH! 😊

      1. How interesting (and horrible). I didn’t know that, only knew about the hunting ban. I wonder what would happen if a maid looked into the stepmother’s mirror… oh the possibilities…
