Shakespeare published 154 sonnets in his quarto in 1609. While the initial 126 are addressed to a young man, the final 28 are directed toward an enigmatic woman referred to as the dark lady.

Dawn burns bright so hot
Hot to little puppy feet
Feet rise and fall so quickly
Quickly they jump into the pool
Pool is chilly and feels wonderful
Wonderful cool water soothes hot feet
Feet splash and paddle away the hurt
Hurt subsides in joyful playfulness
Playfulness makes a puppy happy
Happy puppy barks in exuberance
Exuberance for life and owner
Owner smiles with love at dawn
