An echo of what could’ve been
fades away with each second
The power of time squashes
the voices of friends gone away
A brief burn of passion
before the cold seeps in
Can’t hear the crackling flames
or show what once was real
What could’ve been never let out
held behind that sturdy lock of time
Never will the embers ignite
to warm the heart and soothe the soul

In the dark
where nightmares roam
and distant memories
come back home
In the dark
where I sit alone
and watch my clock
tic like a metronome
In the dark
where evil is grown
and there’s hours before
the sun rears it’s massive dome
In the dark
where spirits are known
and fingers tremble
as I reach for the phone
In the dark
my composure’s blown
you don’t answer my call
drop the phone with a moan

In response to Linda G. Hill’s The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Feb. 15, 2025 – STICKLER
When being a stickler is your job,
Then a stickler you shall be,
and be tickled to be a stickler for a fee!
by Gypsie-Ami Offenbacher-Ferris
Released today by Tales From The Moonlit Path
Thank you to the wonderful editors, Carlos and Tricia for their hard work and belief in the craft of writing!

They are with me,
when you are not.
With you we are we,
with them I am three.
You are not free,
and never will be.
To me they are loyal,
I am all they’ll ever need.
Just like you and me,
they are aging rather quickly,
and much faster than I’d wish,
still they give me love and comfort daily.
This Valentine’s Day as I sit lonely,
I’ll not be alone at all.
My pups will be home with me,
love and affection wholly and completely.

(Love Letters Through Time: Write a poem in the form of a love letter. It can be addressed to yourself, to someone special and/or in memory of a person who has passed.Prompt posted by sanaarizvi

Dear Arthur,
Why has it come about,
that you were birthed
in a time long before mine?
You in a century of swords
and war, castles and knights
and kings, of which you were one.
Me into an ever changing
world of electronic monsters
and political demons.
How is it that my heart
longs for that one whose
bones turned to dust centuries ago?
Where magic and mystery thrived.
When Merlin walked the lands for good
and Morgaine le Fay wove her evil spells.
When kings were revered and strong
horse’s ran with the wind into battle,
and women stood as empty vessels after.
My love you reigned above the decay,
disease and pestilence, the chaotic, human
jealousies to own another’s land, another’s title.
Fifteen centuries ago, to you my heart
has been given. For fifteen centuries
more, with you it shall remain.

A clash of cultures
is to blame
War results
throwing names
Each resolved
their way is right
Gives the humans
a reason to fight
Without war
there is too much growth
The man in charge
takes his oath
Each term it seems
they must pretend
The end for us
they all portend
The world itself
has become too small
Urban sprawl engulfs
old country drawl
Spirit searches
to believe and trust
It matters not
if they are the same as us
Each of us starts
and ends the same
No matter how
we play life’s game

Very happy to announce my short story, “Seeing Red” will be included in the next Bloody Valentine’s Day issue published by TALES FROM THE MOONLIT PATH/HORROR, DARK FICTION, SPECULATIVE FICTION ONLINE MAGAZINE.
