  • Waiting

    Waiting for that phone call
for that text that never comes
    Wondering what went wrong
all those times we spoke before

Afraid a misstep out of place or
a word said in frantic haste
Fearing a string of jumbled words
could have been construed in error

Left without a single sound or embrace
not a touch to sear you into my mind
Alone in agony covered in distrust
weighing down the reality of now

Waiting for a call or a text in the dark
understanding wanes large in the night
    Wondering what went wrong
a discordant song when last we spoke

    On the Southern Side

He lives there, ‘cross the lake that’s froze now, but in the spring there’s frogs and minnows. We ain’t ‘posed to go in there on-a-count of we don’t live on that side-a that fence there. We used to be able to go swimming’ an all, but then they bilt those big houses and that’s when they put up that fence.

I seen him one day, walkin’ his fancy dog, an talkin’ to it just like it were a person. At first I wondered had that man lost his marbles, but I figure he just loves it that much.

    Lucky dog.

  • A Country’s Nightmare

    In response to bwarren’s
    Sunday Whirl Wordle #641

    Afraid of the nightmare
    the untethered dictator
    will bring with broken words
    and rights won now lost

His rise will scar a country
    once strong and proud
the stench of evil will burst
the sanctity of good and light

To allow his rise to power
    will leave smoldering shards
    of freedom for all people
Fight the devil bring back our USA!

  • Rhythm of the Sea

    Photograph of Bone Island, SC
    by F.E. Jones

    Ocean breeze cleanse my soul
let sand and time remove life’s soil
Sunshine warm my cold shriveled skin
restore my heart that I may live again

Seagull song revive my wilted spirit
crushed by loss nourished by pain
So the notes of your discordant song
right the rights and forgive the wrongs

Tiny sea turtles run to the open sea
swim hard and true where you belong
Allow the ever waning tides slide
you from danger the strong survive

Little crabs rushing in and out
dart toward the surf to find a snack
Tempting fate with each long dash
some return others never come back

The sea for me holds the rhythm of life
sit upon its shore absorb its hymn
    Mother Earths sweet rhythmic beat
heal my pain and return my sleep

  • Vapid Response

In response to Sammi Cox’s Weekend Writing Prompt #350 – VAPID (In 60 words!)

The girls were out for a stroll
    one kept complaining their outings
    were droll

    Most but not all agreed
    except one who watched them
    all proceed

    The cluck of viperous tongues
    were unkind to everyone they
    considered unsung

    The quiet one rarely spoken
    stopped them when another girl
    they poked

I must say your wit is vapid
your humor’s no good your brains
    are quite flaccid!

  • Changing Seasons

    Prompt Word: CHANGE

    Seasons move across Mother’s face
emotions change from day to day
One day cheery and oh so bright
the next day brings storms and fright

    Frozen tundra shapes her land
often leaves behind miles of sand
Over the dunes and to the sea
    dolphins swim and seagulls squee

Seasons come and bring more snow
until Springtime comes lawns to mow
Change is good in the natural world
    until mankind himself emerged

  • Into the Night

    Into the night
    spiraling out of sight
    Darkness engulfs
    the morning light

    Within the blackened void
    sucked into the Ancient’s loins
    Alive and breathing never more
    slip into the Universe rejoined

Light is gone into the depths
    caught between unholy nets
    Strings of consciousness release
break the bonds leave no regrets

    Into the night to disappear
pain and heartache drown in tears
    Cleanse the broken tortured soul
    mind and body in arrears

  • A Broken Heart

    In response to bwarren’s
    The Sunday Whirl Wordle #640
    Shadows glistening in the dust
    remnants of a broken trust
A patch on a heart never healed
    stitched together blood congealed

Years swarm a life’s lost wishes
    now barely washing dishes
Dreams of sailing the ocean blue
dropped like a stone because of you

Hints of a future that will never be
formed by others not you or me
    Laying down upon my chest
in mercy upon the earth now to rest
