    Out of reach
    out of time
    Nothing left
    only deceit and lies

    A home built
    upon slush and grime
    Will surely sink
    no substantial ties

    Love that is honest
    heartfelt and true
    Is the kind of love
    I wish for with you

    To care is to grow
    to give and receive
    Only one giving
    bears no reprieve

    Help me build
    a foundation of stone
    To keep us together
    so neither will roam

    What do you say
    to years of decay
To a woman or a man
    who sacrificed all
    defending freedom for our land

    Is thank you enough
when they’ve had it so tough
    To come home bandaged wrapped
    after fighting tyranny and hate
or worse sent back in a crate

    We discharge them back home
    then leave them alone
    To keep fighting and struggling
    a monumental effort to maintain
    while still staying sane

    Before they are grown
    they are drafted and flown
    To lands where freedom failed
    the ones that survived returning
to find their own government bailed

  • The Waiting is Over! We Are Poetry: Lessons I Didn’t Learn in a Textbook is Here! 🥳

I followed my friend Dwight to Kym Gordon Moore’s blog and in particular to read and read about her new publication, “We Are Poetry.” I have barely started and already I’m shaking my head yes and spouting, “WOW” to my confused but loyal pups! Not only a fantastic and prolific writer, her insight and ability to motivate a resting or sleeping muse is incredible. Mine was dozing a bit, but is wide awake now! Check out this ultra-fantastic movement and enjoy as I am!

I’m so excited! And I just can’t hide it! I’m about to lose control and I think I like it!!! Channeling my inner Pointer Sisters! 😜 You can best bet I am grinning from ear to ear right about now. Of course, there was a snafu with the Kindle version, something about a reflowable error. I should have known things were going along a little too smoothly! 😝 They are in the process of getting this fixed and should take a couple of days, but the paperback version is READY! Thanks for everyone’s support! I think I need a drink right now! 🥂 Cheers y’all!

    Disconnect then reconnect
    then disconnect
    repeat.

    Each broken pathway
    leaves painful thorns
    in both feet.

    One step then two
    and by three you
    have gone.

    Chasing your dreams
    following the sun
    leaving her far behind.

    Night has slipped away,
    morning light dapples
    through leaves not yet
    dropped in the Fall breeze.

    Bird call stirs my soul,
my throat aches to answer in kind.
    Woodpecker’s laugh as they break
open their peanuts on a tall light pole.

Tiny chickadee’s swoop in and out
    snatching their favored bits from
the feeder before darting back into
the security of the pine branches.

    Squirrels and doves sit patiently
on the ground, awaiting bird scraps.
Thrushes barge in by three’s knocking other ground feeder’s out of the way.

The breeze picks up, a storm
    approaches sending large raindrops
ahead. One last spattering of sweet
bird song before we all must go in.

The flight had been extremely bumpy from Atlanta to Norwich. It was not her first time in the United Kingdom, but it was her first time to take a transcontinental flight for a first date!

Imagine at her age, flying across the ocean to meet a man she had only ever spoken to online or on the telephone. They had finally progressed to ‘face-timing’ against her protestations. She was no beauty and feared yet another rejection after being seen in person, as it were.

Yet, he had told her she was even more beautiful. No one had ever told her she was beautiful before; she was instantly enamored.

So, here she was in Great Britain about to walk into the Briton Arms Coffee House and Restaurant on 9 Elm Hill in Norwich to meet the man of her dreams. She inhaled the crisp Fall air deeply, and went inside.

    In an entire life
    when being one’s self
    is not enough
    or too much
    for another person –
    Who does one turn to?

    In an entire life
    when being one’s self
    causes angst in others
    or uncomfortable
    feelings of responsibility –
    Who should change?

    In an entire life
    when being one’s self
    leaves one alone
and lonely for days on end
no one to talk or share with –
Who wants this person … ever?

    In an entire life
    when being one’s self
is a heart full of love
    wishing only for affection
    and love echoed in return
    Who would choose one’s self?

    In an entire life
    when being one’s self
    brought failed marriages
    estranged family and friends
loss of financial stability and homes
    Who can one’s self become?

In response to dVerse Poets Pub prompt from Tulips & Chimneys, by e. e. cummings using the last line of IX-Impressions: ‘In the street of the sky night walks scattering poems.’

Posted by Linda Lee Lyberg – Write a story of 144 words or less, not including the title.
(RULES: The story must have a beginning and an end, and should not be poetry. You must use the poetry line above within your story in its entirety without inserting any other words.)

Awaiting the night, the day drags eternal. Minute after minute melts into hours that drizzle down windows caked with age and grime.

Finally, finally Old Sol gives up his day reigns to allow Lady Moon to rule the night. Creatures of darkness slip from beneath fallen brown and red marbled leaves, damp from evening dew.

Huge toads emerge slowly, eyes scan the area for land and air predators, also beasts of blackness. Owls, snakes, crocodiles of the swamp and bigger toads out to find a tasty meal, or two.

Crickets chirp their melancholy mating song. The paramour of the previous night, devoured by another drawn by her tune. The eater later finds himself within the belly of an even bigger connoisseur of fresh prey.

It is this darkness that bids the writer out for in the street of the sky night walks scattering poems.

    Focus a kind thought

willow tree waiting at life’s end

Anchored in her Tree of Life pot
trust her to forgive all transgressions
