Otter Be

Response to Shay’s Word Garden Word List #11 (“A Ted Hughes Bestiary”)

I think I shall always wonder
How things otter be
Instead of how it has worked out
Between both you and me

How can it be
that your pretense
and rubbish compliments
washed away my common sense

Within the madhouse of your mind
behind the sophistry of your tongue
I did not see I did not feel
your words were ought but dung

But now things are how they otter be
I’ve righted all the wrongs
No longer odious vapour will spew
from your deep dark black lungs
