Nature’s Song

In response to Living Poetry’s – Monday Poetry Prompt: Although, Spring, Woodpecker
Posted by Bartholomew Barker

Every Spring you grace my home
your pecking soliloquy
music to my wintered ears

Although my neighbors
both small and frail
do not like the Woodpecker’s wail

I find his call melodious
supporting the tap tap tap
of his favorite pecking base

A choir of Bluebirds chirp joyfully along then there’s nothing better
than nature’s harmonious song

  1. they get really really big too. I have one that likes to peck on our oak tree. He or she has to be at least a foot tall.

    1. Most certainly! I have one that loves the sunflower seeds, and when he’s on the feeder, the whole thing rocks back and forth – scaring all the other birds away. He then takes his seed somewhere up high, cracks it open, ears it and comes back for me. He’s absolutely gorgeous. 😊
