Anniversary

D.L. Franklin 03/19/1933 – 03/29/2016

Today is the day you went away
drifted away so soundlessly
A bigger man I never knew
no other would ever compare to you

Ten years it’s been since that fateful day
a slip of the wheel with a crash and a bang
Is all it took to take my Dad from me
something I never thought I’d ever see

Here I sit an old woman now
your face and your voice still clear in my mind
How I wish you were here to hold my hand
instead of spread across the cold hard land

Someday I hope to see you again
if what you taught me comes to pass and then
I’ll run into my Daddy’s arms
safe and sound and finally warm
