In response to dVerse’ Quadrille Monday Prompt: MUSIC (in exactly 44 words not counting the title)
    Hosted by Linda Lee Lyberg

Listen past the constant hum hum
of cars pounding tired tires on broken
    pavement

Hear the music of Nature living
    her heartbeat strong beneath your
    feet

Smell the richness of the fertile soil
she provides to all those willing to
    toil

  • The Ceremony

sheet, elder, thistle, throw, stalks, loss, crow, tremor, crest, wispy, depths, sky

    In response to bwarren’s
    The Sunday Whorl Wordle #593

    Cliff edge welcomed the Elder
    expecting her before now
Gripping stalks of thistle to throw
    in her gnarled, arthritic fingers
only a slight tremor in her hands
    revealed their loss of dexterity

    Raising both arms she became
one with air and sky offering
    The mountain crest dropped
into the depths of a yawning maw
where a lone crow called to her

    A widow’s sheet held tightly
    around her slight body
    She walked slowly through
    wispy gusts of air colored
    red by the setting sun

  • Earth Poem

    Radiant suns rays shimmer
on a future dismal and bleak
    Daffodils push through
    ground unfrozen by the warmth

    Greenery abounds outdoors
    inside nothing ever grows
    Morning Glory vines
send feeler sprouts out to scout

    A family of Goldfinches
stop to eat from a bird-feeder
filled to the brim with fresh seed
Blessed are the birds of wild

    Captured avians left alone
    in cages devoid of light
Deprived of food, water and care
are not so blessed as their kin

    The Earth turns each face
to the mighty orb in the sky
    Every day gaining sustenance
    inside she withers and dies

Through the dense cover of clouds
    circling in her unending journey
    A lone sunbeam breaks through
    nourishing her fading core

    Storm rages on
    Lights go out
    Night sky comes alive

  • My Recliner

    My recliner cradles me
    when I am tired
    when I am sick
and when my mind is weary

    My recliner comforts me
    when pain is overwhelming
    when heartache is all encompassing
    and disease wracks my body

    My recliner consoles me
    when my soul is torn
    when my convictions waiver
    and my choices unclear

    My recliner soothes me
    gently rocking back and forth
    gently creaking and moaning
    like long time lovers

  • Hunger

    iStock.com

    Hungry for a touch
    from another human being
    The feel of a hand
    trailing a weathered cheek

    Eardrums shrinking
    starved for the sound
    of a deep voice
    whispering love words

    Soul aches for someone
to care to listen to cradle
    in arms strong and gentle
    loving and kind

A laugh at a bad joke
    a hug for a tear
    Debating politics
    while dinner is shared

    Pull down the covers
    on a well made bed
    Kiss sweetly goodnight
    to do all over again

  • Celebrate Heartache

    By Syda Productions

In response to Ragtag Daily Prompt Tuesday – The word CELEBRATE
    Posted by Perpetua

    Oh holiday
    how you rend
    and tear a tortured
    soul

    Reminding us
    unencumbered
    by loves vows
    and chains

    Little cards
    with floaty hearts
    resplendent in bright
    red

    Only serve
    to emphasize
    no flowers or candy
    have we

    When finally
    this day is done
    the calendar reminds
    us cruelly

    That we are alone
    no one is at home
    next holiday we’ll
    still be lonely

  • Away You Go or Lover’s Lament

    Away you go!
    Away you go
    While I stay home
    At home I stay

    To toil away
    To toil away
    Days without end
    Endless days

    The sea your bride
    The sea your bride
    Beckons you away
    Away from my side

    Lonely nights missing you
    Lonely nights missing you
    Weeks to long months
    Long months of solitude

    Sadness breeds anger
    Sadness breeds anger
    Leads to needing more
    Needing leads to danger

    Off to play
    Off to play
    The sea calls you back
    Home is cast away

    Away you go!
    Away you go
    While I stay home
    At home I stay
