“I say!” Said he to me,
“Have you ever seen with your ears or heard with your eyes?”
As you can imagine, I looked at him with dubious surprise.
“What say you?” Said I to him great suspicion in my voice.
“It is but just a matter,
just a little matter of choice!”
    Said he in reply.
    Echoes of stark white buildings
    near fifty floors high
    filled with stark white coats
and a lake with a boat beneath a sunny sky came to mind.
“Kind Sir,” I said with a smile
unwilling to cause the man pain,
    “Have you per chance been
    speaking to the walrus
    and the carpenter again?”
“Why yes I have how could you
tell?” His eyes bright with glee.
    “Well I can not lie
and I’ll tell you true, they’ve
    also been talking to me!”

  • Tomorrow

    By Ami (Gypsie) Offenbacher-Ferris

Tonight as I lay upon my bed to sleep
I dream of what tomorrow will bring
    Running through meadows or
    along the beach
Happy and whole for all to see

Tomorrow I will wake up strong
to find within my body nothing’s wrong
And when I do rise from my bed
not an ounce of pain to be had

I can run down stairs and right back up
    Run beside the garbage truck
I can swim and jump and dive
No longer worried if I’ll survive

Tomorrow there will be no pain
no pokes and prods for little gain
I’m sure that after a life like this the Angels will come and show me bliss

    Tomorrow -

    Laying alone in my recliner
    hard to move now
    My eyes see everything
yet my eyes see nothing at all

    Vivid memories bombard my mind
while I can’t remember what day it is
Still my eyes watch the memories
    that play behind closed eyelids

It was finally finished after hours and hours of work, a lifetime really, and it was extraordinary if she did say so herself. The gifted artist looked down at her hands and sighed deeply; no matter how hard she tried she always ended up with paint all over her hands and clothes.

She sat back, examining her masterpiece, it really was her best work so far. Looking around the studio she sighed again, cringing this time as she surveyed the absolutely horrid mess all around her.

Before she had a chance to clean up, familiar footsteps resounded down the hallway and a long-legged woman stood in the doorway of the studio, arms on her hips with a scowl plastered firmly upon her face.

Lifting her arms, the little artist was hefted from within the chaotic tumble of paints and dripping paintbrushes to be unceremoniously plopped into the massive bathtub now filled with warm water and bubble bath.

In response to http:sammiscribbles.wordpress.com word prompt RUNE

    I wore your rune
    around my neck
    dangled on a heavy chain

    This rune it meant
    so much more than
    it was first intended to

In times of play and times
of stress in times of grief
it held us fast together our rune

    Between you and me
    this rune a bond
    we swore unbreakable

    Yet it could not bear
the test of time the test of fate
then you were no longer mine

Last I saw that special rune
it lay in the dust it’s chain in two my rune now nothing but broken
    ruins

    Prompt word CHRYSALIS
Her cocoon so soft and warm
    safe
Stay she would in this time and
    place
The world outside could whirl and
    twirl
She’d stay inside protected a good
    girl
No matter how they poked and
    pried
Inside her cocoon so safe she never
    cried
Out there were monsters and evil
    things
Protected in her cocoon she hid her
    wings
Pretending her chrysalis had yet to
    be
To emerge from here they might not
    see
    Past translucent wings of unearthly
    cadency
To a mind riddled with abstract
    insanity

“You did what? I did not agree to that! No way, no sir, no how! What? It’s for my own good? If it’s such a good thing, you go do it and leave me here! No, I said I’m not going and I mean it! I’m not getting into that kennel, I’m not!”

“I’m not getting out of this kennel, I’m not getting out! It’s the white coats! Run, scratch, bite …. Goodnight.”

“Isn’t life wonderful? I hear the birds, the humans talking, life is good – I think I’ll go back to sleep for a while.”
