  • Seeking Absolution

    By (Gypsie) Offenbacher-Ferris

In response to prompt provided by
    E.M.’s Random Word Prompt #104

    Seeking absolution from crimes
    I’ve not committed
    Yet crimes levied against me
    by the naive and misinformed.

    Misrepresented.

Seeking absolution from this disease that has me in its clutches, But one that I did not ask for not now and not ever.

    Punishment.

    Seeking absolution from heartache
    sorrow, grief, anger, and despair
    Protection for an unguarded heart
that’s never learned how to heal.

    Redemption.

Seeking absolution for the innocent, the troubled, oppressed and wounded. For those serving and yet to serve and those brave souls who have fallen.

    Absolution.

    Wool Derby Flat Cap

The first time that we met that day
I saw upon your stately head a hat
of a hat, a hat like no other. A lovely hat, a manly hat you wore
    upon your head.

My gaze wondered up and up
    your height quite astounding,
so I had to go on tippy-toe to give
you a proper greeting. I did
    then you bent down low.

You whispered in my upturned ear
a soft, melodic hello. The sound
of your voice, your breath so warm and sweet. I hadn’t a clue before I
knew you about things stirring within.

Now when I see traveling through
the crowd, a stately head indeed.
Upon that head a pretty site the same
I spied back then. That lovely gray Derby Flat Cap upon your handsome head.

  • Stand With Ukraine

Word prompt submitted by Bartholomew Barker

    ATTACK, EXIST, ROLL

Three neighbors sat on their front stoops discussing the what if’s in life. Naturally, the unprovoked war in the Ukraine was the main topic of discussion.

The neighbor living the farthest away from the other two and closer to the aggressor, advocated for a swift and immediate attack by our armed forces to protect everyone before the war-monger stepped foot on USA soil.

But the second house, the one in the middle, said the USA needed to ignore any and all things happening away from our borders, to save lives and money and if we didn’t bother them, they wouldn’t bother us and we could exist in peace.

Lastly, the third house was totally against any type of rebellion or attack. This fellow said the USA should just roll over, belly-up and give in to Russia because we were all going to be Russians soon enough, so why waste our young men’s lives in a loosing battle.

Soon the three were arguing and bickering among themselves, blind to what was happening around them. Quietly, without fanfare, ado or even more bloodshed, the aggressor slid in and took what they had always been wanting. The USA.

Response to WordPress.com Monthly Word Prompt – Bridge

A very long and delicate bridge
    hangs airily between us
With a gate it’s hinges set and strong
    No other may enter here

This gate is most odd you know
    it’s workings like no other
allowing you to enter as you wish
    and exit just the same

The gate can open just one way
    it keeps me bound within
    Allowing you to enter here
    forbidding I go there

I pray this bridge is built to last
    it’s tethers remain true
As I wait and dream of the day
that I can leave with you

    Response to word prompt DAUGHTER
    provided by The Daily Spur

My daughter born so soft and sweet
Two feet long with tiny feet
Scream and squawk you did not
Lifted your head without a flop

Let me see I could read in your eyes
No baby stuff for you would suffice
Walking around at six months old
Suddenly you had up and grown

Holding hands to cross the road
No way were you going to be told
to slow down and take your time
Not me mom, I can double-time!

And so it went and so it’s gone
my little girl had met someone
Now she has a lovely home
and her own little boy plays and roams

  • Weekend Fantasy

    By (Gypsie) Ami Offenbacher-Ferris

Art by Thomas Linker Sold by GreatBIGCanvas

    Dreaming of hot summer days
    with you
    on your sailboat
    Followed by sweltering
    summer nights
    alone with you

    Making breakfast together
    hot kitchen
    in our skivvies
    Eating breakfast in our room
    ocean view
    a tropical breeze

Eyes meet across the dinette set
    blazing lust
    glazed undisguised love
    Another day of sailing
    liquid sun
    on bare shoulders

    Monday morning rises too soon
    suitcases stacked
    mementoes packed away
    Deep kisses goodbye
    long hugs
    hands clutching fabric

    Until next time we meet
    so discreet
    being together again
One last kiss and farewell wave
    no tears
    Refusing to cry

  • A Late Throw Back Thursday Submission

I am always late for everything – I am the poster girl for Tidsoptimism. Tidsoptimist, a person who’s habitually late because they think they have more time than they do. Being a tidsoptimist is more akin to having a zest for life and a drive for activity. It evokes the individual who is driven by passion and can’t say no because they want to do everything, be involved and befriend the world.

This is one of my favorite pictures of my grandson. We were living on Emerald Isle, NC and had some of the best times of our lives there. ❤️
